As an Ambassador, one or two current international students mentor a group of 10 new or current international students. Groups begin connecting about 6 weeks before the semester starts for that term. Ambassadors support their mentees through group gatherings, meetups, and assist questions they may have prior to arriving to the university or during their studies.
Information for Ambassador (Current TXST Student)
Through this program, an Ambassador will:
Build mentorship and friendship with their mentees and other mentors in the program
Build a sense of belonging to Texas State University
Develop their career readiness competencies such as interpersonal competencies, multicultural communication skills, and leadership skills

Qualifications
- You must be a current student at Texas State University.
- Work hours would be dependent on review of your class schedule.
- Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher to be in good academic standing.
- Have completed at least one semester of study at Texas State University by the time of application.
- Must have strong communication skills as well as be able to speak English effectively.
- Current TXST international students who are committed to actively participate in the program events and mentor training sessions
- Current TXST international students who are willing to support new international students by sharing resources and their own experiences
Job Duties
- Attend at least 2 events with mentees as a group. One must be TXST event including events that the ISSS organize. The other event must be a local community event.
- Attend mandatory new International Ambassador training.
- Attend trainings for mentors and learn about the program and skills
- Be a positive role model and encourage new students to learn and develop their skills to navigate their life at TXST
- Communicate regularly with assigned new students about their pre-arrival and post-arrival concerns throughout the semester
- Help answer prospective and admitted TXST student questions if additional support is needed.
- Join TXST hosted webinars, as needed, in order to support International Affairs in it’s outreach and support efforts to prospective and/or admitted students.
- Make the mentor experience positive and beneficial to yourself
- Mandatory Assistance with International Student Orientation hosted by the ISSS Office every semester (Spring, Summer, and Fall).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Organize and promote events that support international engagement, such as cultural festivals or networking opportunities.
